B+G’s Snoqualmie Pass Microwedding
We love planning microweddings because there are so many small moments of beauty in each one. Often weddings are a big production overrun by large guest counts and the stressful task of catering to so many people. With an intimate wedding, the couple can focus on what’s most important to them - good food, spending quality time with friends and family and enjoying the beautiful setting of the venue.
B&G are a couple who like to recreate in the outdoors and their priority was to celebrate their union in the mountains. They have a love for nature and wanted to showcase that in their wedding, however, they also wanted to be mindful of bringing a large amount of people into the woods. They decided to have a small ceremony at Pass Life Workspace which is in the heart of Snoqualmie Pass and then have a larger party the next day in their backyard in Sultan.
For those out there that say you need a year to plan a wedding, this couple would prove you otherwise. B&G reached out to me in May with only the venue booked and they got hitched in July!
On the day of the ceremony, the couple started out with pictures at Gold Creek Pond. This can be a very busy location with lots of visitors, but if you time it right you can find some good spots. A note on this area - it is heavily used for small ceremonies and photoshoots. We encourage all visitors to use Leave No Trace principles like staying on the trails and leaving nothing behind including trash or flower petals.
After their photos, the couple met their 17 family members and friends at Pass Life Workspace. Pass Life is a collective of businesses - an outdoor gear shop and small market & bakery downstairs and a co-working space and The Cathedral event space upstairs. The Cathedral Room has a wall of windows that lets in beautiful natural light with a view of the forest behind it.
During their ceremony B+G didn’t want to walk down an aisle or have anyone escort them in a processional, so when they were ready to start the ceremony, they walked to the middle of the room together with their community watching.
Following the couple’s heartfelt ceremony, they signed their marriage license to make it legal and celebrated with drinks and appetizers. Three Sisters Catering provided a charcuterie board along with a shrimp boat appetizer. As this was a small group, the couple provided their own beer and wine for guests.
B+G wanted to collect snapshots from their day so they decided to have an Instax camera for guests to use and tape into a guest book.
Some couples have a strong design vision where they have specific colors and styles in mind. B+G were more laid-back and their design direction was “make it look pretty with low effort from us.” With the shortened 2 month planning window we relied heavily on the hired vendors to provide design details and Susan with Celebrations for Every Season was a perfect partner. Celebrations provided the linens, plates, silverware, glassware as well as the flowers (from her garden!) and bud vases. Instead of specific colors, the vibe was “what’s in season in muted colors.” This allowed Susan the freedom to design something beautiful without having to visit a flower market to hunt for specific colors.
After cocktail hour, the couple and guests settled in for a delicious pasta dinner buffet. Then they cut their cake and ate desserts from the decadent dessert display. Toasts by a few family members followed. Afterwards B+G went outside for some more photos at golden hour and their resourceful photographer Jess with Bloom & Wander found a field of daisies right next to the venue.
We loved working with B+G to make their weekend special and feel like them. This day truly included everything that served them and nothing that didn’t. As we had a 2 month window to plan their ceremony at Pass Life plus their backyard bash, we provided all vendor recommendations. We also helped them turn their private property into a venue that was comfortable for their guests and made sure that they thought of everything to ensure their day was a success. We worked with them to think through guest flow, parking, bathroom access and the property layout on their property in Sultan.
Eco-friendly actions that the couple took:
They had a small guest count with 17 at the ceremony site and 50 at their backyard bash. Smaller guest counts lead to less waste creation.
The decor was rented or borrowed. Tables, chairs, plates, silverware and glasses were rented. Very few items were bought new
The flowers were from a backyard garden and the bouquet and dog collar were faux flowers.
Place cards were made from leaves.
The bride’s dress was handsewn by her. Apparently she was still sewing it the day before the wedding!
We made sure to compost and recycle as much as we could.
